Mitsubishi Lancer Oil Change Procedure

Regularly changing the oil in your Mitsubishi Lancer is essential for maintaining a healthy engine and prolonging its lifespan. Oil provides lubrication, cools engine components, and prevents premature wear and tear. Follow this step-by-step guide to perform an oil change procedure:

Step 1: Gather the necessary tools and materials

Before starting the oil change process, make sure you have the following items:

  • Wrench or socket set
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Oil drain pan
  • New oil filter
  • New engine oil (check your vehicle's manual for the recommended oil type and quantity)
  • Funnel
  • Shop rags or paper towels

Step 2: Prepare your vehicle

Park your Mitsubishi Lancer on a flat surface and let the engine cool down for a few minutes. Engaging the parking brake is important to ensure stability during the oil change procedure.

Step 3: Locate the oil drain plug

The oil drain plug is typically located on the bottom of the engine oil pan. Consult your vehicle's manual or look for a metal pan with a hexagonal head underneath the engine compartment. Prepare the oil drain pan beneath the plug to catch the old oil.

Step 4: Remove the oil drain plug

Using a wrench or socket set, carefully loosen and remove the oil drain plug. Be cautious of the hot oil that may gush out once the plug is removed. Allow the old oil to completely drain into the pan, and then securely tighten the oil drain plug back into place.

Step 5: Change the oil filter

Locate the oil filter. It is typically located near the engine block. To remove the oil filter, use an oil filter wrench. Place the drain pan beneath the oil filter to catch any oil that may spill. Unscrew the old oil filter in a counterclockwise motion and carefully dispose of it. Apply a small amount of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter. Screw the new oil filter on, tightening it by hand. Do not over tighten as it may cause damage.

Step 6: Add new oil

Using a funnel, pour the recommended amount of new engine oil into the oil filler hole located on the top of the engine. Double-check your vehicle's manual for the specific oil capacity. Once filled, replace the oil cap.

Step 7: Verify oil level and clean up

Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Turn off the engine and wait for a couple of minutes to allow the oil to settle back into the oil pan. Check the oil level using the dipstick. If it's within the recommended range, you're good to go. Clean up any oil spills and dispose of the used oil and filter properly at a recycling center.

By following this oil change procedure in your Mitsubishi Lancer, you can ensure your engine operates smoothly, efficiently, and lasts for many miles to come.
