Wrangler Oil Change Steps

Performing regular oil changes is crucial for the maintenance and longevity of your Jeep Wrangler. By following these simple steps, you can easily change the oil in your Wrangler and ensure optimal performance of your vehicle.

Step 1: Gather Necessary Materials

Before starting the oil change, make sure you have the following items:

• Oil filter
• New oil
• Oil pan or container
• Socket wrench
• Oil filter wrench
• New oil filter gasket
• Funnel
• Shop towels or rags

Step 2: Prepare the Vehicle

Park your Jeep Wrangler on a flat surface and engage the parking brake. Make sure the engine is cool before proceeding.

Step 3: Drain the Old Oil

Locate the undercarriage oil drain plug, usually positioned in the middle of the oil pan. Place the oil pan or container beneath the drain plug, then use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the plug. Allow the old oil to drain out completely. Once drained, reinstall the drain plug, ensuring it is tightened securely.

Step 4: Replace the Oil Filter

With an oil filter wrench, carefully remove the old oil filter in a counterclockwise direction. Ensure that the rubber gasket comes off with the old filter. Apply a thin layer of new oil to the rubber gasket of the new oil filter. Then, screw the new oil filter onto the engine, tightening it by hand until snug. Be careful not to overtighten.

Step 5: Add New Oil

Locate the oil filler cap on top of the engine. Remove the cap and insert a funnel into the opening. Slowly pour in the recommended amount of new oil, as specified in your Wrangler's owner's manual. After pouring, replace the oil filler cap securely.

Step 6: Check Oil Level

Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. Then, turn off the engine and wait for a few minutes to allow the oil to settle. Use the dipstick, usually found near the oil filler cap, to check the oil level. Add more oil if needed, ensuring it does not exceed the maximum level indicated on the dipstick.

Step 7: Clean Up

Wipe any spilled oil from the engine compartment and under the vehicle using shop towels or rags. Double-check that the drain plug and oil filter are securely tightened.
