Step 1: Prepare the Tools and Materials

• A new transmission filter and gasket (if applicable)
• An appropriate amount of new ATF as specified by your vehicle's manufacturer
• A socket wrench set
• A drain pan or large container to catch the old fluid
• A funnel
• A jack and jack stands (if necessary)
• Safety glasses and gloves

Step 2: Locate the Transmission Fluid Pan

First, you need to locate the transmission fluid pan. It is usually located underneath the vehicle, attached to the bottom of the transmission. Ensure that you can easily access the pan and have enough space to work comfortably.

Step 3: Drain the Old Fluid

Place the drain pan underneath the transmission fluid pan. Carefully loosen the bolts securing the pan using the appropriate socket wrench. Once you notice clean and clear ATF flowing through the tubing into the drain pan, shut off the vehicle.

Step 6: Reassemble and Refill

Reconnect the transmission cooler return line to its original position. Clean the transmission pan thoroughly and reinstall it using a new gasket, if necessary. Tighten the bolts securely but avoid over-tightening them. Refill the transmission with the appropriate amount of new ATF through the transmission dipstick tube using a funnel.

Step 7: Test the Transmission

Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes, allowing the transmission to warm up. Check for any leaks underneath the vehicle. Shift through all the gears to ensure smooth shifting. Recheck the fluid level using the dipstick and top up if necessary.
