The drive belt on a John Deere tractor should be replaced every 100-150 hours of use or as needed if signs of wear and tear are evident. To adjust the drive belt properly, follow these steps:
- Locate the drive belt tensioner on the tractor.
- Loosen the tensioner bolt to release the tension on the drive belt.
- Remove the old drive belt and replace it with a new one of the same size and type.
- Adjust the tension on the new drive belt by tightening the tensioner bolt until the belt is snug.
- Check the tension of the drive belt by pressing down on it with your finger. It should have about 1/2 inch of give.
- Start the tractor and run it for a few minutes to make sure the drive belt is functioning properly.
